In todays post I introduce you to some of my favourite female entrepreneurs! In a world where for women ambition can be a dirty word these ladies are flying the flag and breaking glass ceilings!
1. Sheryl Sandberg
I have written about Sheryl before in one of my monthly fave posts after I read her inspiring and eye opening book Lean In (Highly recommend reading this book!! ). For those of you who are not familiar with Sheryl she is the Chief Operating Officer of Facebook. She was the first woman to serve on Facebook's board and has been listed as the 8th most powerful woman in the world. She is a well known advocate for gender equality at home and in work. Sandberg has a self made net worth of $1.2 billion showing her determination and hard work. She is an amazing role model for all young girls and women and is living proof that you can smash those glass ceilings!
2. Marissa Carter
If you are living in Ireland you would have to be living under a rock not to know who this lady is. Marissa began her career years ago when she started a beauty salon in Blackrock Dublin called Carter Beauty. She is now the brains behind the much loved cult tan that is Cocoa Brown. Her business is growing at a rapid pace and just last week she was awarded with Irish Female Entrepreneur of the Year Award. She is an inspirational mom of two who is building a brand that is steadily growing around the world!
3. Shonda Rhimes
This woman has brought great joy .. and sorrow to my life! She is the creator of some of the BEST tv shows ever. She introduced us all to Mac Dreamy and then just as easily ripped him from us! She also brought us the one and only Olivia Pope!
For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about Shonda Rhimes is the creator of Greys Anatomy, Private Practice, How to get Away With Murder and Scandal. She is the founder of production company ShondaLand. In an industry where less than a quarter of shows are run my female executives Shonda is killing it!
4. Sara Blakely
This is the woman you can thank for bringing Spanx into our lives! With a net worth of over $1 billion she has made it to numerous Forbes lists including Americas self made women and most powerful women. It has been 15 years since Sarah launched Spanx out of her apartment. it is now a world renowned brand that has revolutionised the way women dress. Blakely launched the Sara Blakely Foundation to help women through education and entrepreneurial training.
5. Sophia Amoruso
Last but certainly not least is my all time favourite girlboss of all time! Sophia Amoruso is the CEO of Nastygal and author of the book #Girlboss (which everyone must read)! Her story is positively inspiring. She went from shoplifter to being listed on the 30 under 30 list.
Sophia is the founder of one of the most fastest growing online retailer ever and has been named as Forbes "Fashion new Phenom" . She is definelty one to follow.
